Acyclovir Injection

Overview

Acyclovir Injection is an intravenous antiviral medication used for the treatment of severe herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including herpes encephalitis, neonatal herpes, severe initial genital herpes, and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infections such as shingles and chickenpox in immunocompromised patients.

It works by inhibiting viral DNA polymerase, thereby blocking viral DNA replication and reducing the severity and duration of infection.

⚖️ Strength/Dosage Forms:

Available in vials (e.g., 250 mg, 500 mg, 1 g) for IV infusion after reconstitution.

✅ Indication:

Severe HSV infections (encephalitis, neonatal herpes)

Varicella-zoster virus infections in immunocompromised patients

Severe primary or recurrent genital herpes when oral therapy is not suitable
