Overview
Vitamin K Injection contains Phytomenadione (Vitamin K1), used to prevent or treat bleeding disorders caused by vitamin K deficiency. It plays a critical role in the synthesis of clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X in the liver, which are essential for normal blood coagulation.
It is commonly administered in newborns, patients on anticoagulants, or those with liver disease to prevent or correct bleeding.
⚖️ Strength/Dosage Form:
Injection: commonly 1 mg/ml or 10 mg/ml
Pack size: 1 ml or 2 ml ampoules for intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), or subcutaneous (SC) administration
✅ Indication:
Prevention of hemorrhagic disease in newborns
Treatment of vitamin K deficiency bleeding
Reversal of excessive anticoagulation (e.g., Warfarin overdose)
Coagulopathy due to liver disease or malabsorption
⚠️ Note:
Administration route (IV, IM, SC) depends on clinical situation
Must be used under medical supervision, especially in patients with bleeding disorders
